The Tube Box S from Pro-Ject Audio Systems offers un-rivalled performance, exceptional sonic ability and unique flexibility for a very competitive price.
The dual-mono configuration, audiophile amplifier modules and polypropylene capacitors allow for a dynamic soundstage with ample detail; yet the addition of two ECC83 valves (one per-channel) adds new life and realism to the musical performance. The sturdy casework and external power supply further help to reduce the effects of outside interference, like other models in the S Line, but the Tube Box S also externalises its valves for optimal heat dissipation.
Where the Tube Box S takes another step up in ability is in its various setting adjustments. Using the dip-switches underneath the chassis (there are two sets – one for each channel), it’s possible to more accurately match the turntable cartridge’s technical characteristics. The dip switches allow for various Gain, Impedance and Capacitance settings. The built-in Sub-Sonic Filter further helps tailor the sound, rolling off any problematic rumble that may appear underneath 20Hz.
The sonic quality of the Tube Box S is extremely impressive and offers a notable improvement over any other S Line phono stage, making it an audiophile upgrade for almost any mid-priced analogue hi-fi system.
